Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT Hot-Shoe Flash

Canon's new and most powerful Speedlite yet is the Speedlite 600EX-RT. This speedlite is equipped with a wireless two-way radio communication, this allows the photographers to expand their creativity and not be chained to using the flash atop the camera! When creating the Speedlite 600EX-RT, Canon has improved upon the older flashes in the Canon family.  You can now view all important shooting information using a new dot-matrix LCD panel. This Speedlite was built tough with a comprehensive dust and water sealing system, improved hot shoe contact and improved head durability.

Wireless Capabilities

Canon has given you more creative control with your lighting with the new Speedlite 600EX-RT by making it a complete wireless flash system! The flash works off of a radio controlled, two-way wireless transmission and gives you a range of about 98.4 feet, among up to 5 groups with a total of 15 individual Speedlites. The flash uses a 2.4 GHz frequency to transmit it’s signal which helps protect it against interruption by physical obstacles. Also to accommodate any number of shooting styles, the Speedlite 600EX-RT has 18 custom functions.

Additional Features

For more advanced flash photography the Speedlite 600EX-RT has an improved guide number of 197ft. (60m) at ISO 100. This means the flash offers 20mm to 200mm coverage. And as previously mentioned, for your convenience and protection, this Speedlite was created to be dust and water resistant.

Ratings and reviews

Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT Hot-Shoe Flash SKU: 5296B002

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Flash Ever I feel lucky to have new 600’s. These will be replacing my 10 year old units that have 1000’s of flash cycles in dust, dirt and even rain. I tried a few china copies and nothing compares in my outside action environment. Always copied and never duplicated. This is the benchmark for speedlites. The best ever.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT FOR PROFESSIONAL USE - keeps unlinking from transmitter Worked like a charm for years without a hitch, then suddenly it started losing the radio connection to the transmitter. Almost every 1-2 min, I have to stop and cycle the power on all the flashes and the transmitter. As other reviews state, this is a well documented problem on Canon forums that has not been addressed at all by Canon.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loses Sync Loved this flash for many years, but these flashes are no longer reliable and lose sync with the trigger. Likely due to radio interference from either wifi or cell signals. I have 3 of them and 2 triggers and they are essentially worthless for intended purpose now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable radio connection Very unreliable radio connection in settings with Wi-Fi interference; like everywhere other than a park. There is no fix. Problem is well documented on Canon user forum. It’s a shame as the build quality and feature set is up to canon standards. It’s just useless if you need reliable off camera flash.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Excellent flash hampered by transmitter issues The 600EX II-RT works great on its own. However, I have 4. As a wedding photographer, I need my on-camera and remote flashes to reliable function in a different building every weekend. The built-in wireless triggers are unreliable. Depending on the building, the connection between the on-camera flash and the remote flashes will drop every few minutes. The only way to reconnect is turn each remote flash off and on again. This is a completely unacceptable level of reliability for the price and totally unworkable in a professional event setting. I'll be selling mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice: Powerful, Powerful, Powerful Flash is awesome has plenty of power and recovery time is excellent. High sync works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My best light assistant My best light investment and a good combination with my EOS 5D mark IV. Easy to use and manipulate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good Speedlite but watch out for other 2.4 ghz devices! I bought 3 of these Speedlites along with the ST-E3-RT Transmitter. It's a great setup with plenty of power. The menu and display is easy to use with a day or two of using them. I used the radio link in a large room and they worked great. The only issue I found is my home Google WIFI extenders interfere with the signal. The "Link" drops after a few minutes no matter what channel I put the Speedlites on including the Auto setting. I don't think this is really an issue with the Speedlite, but it's something to be aware of if you set up in a place with devices searching for a 2.4ghz band. The Speedlites also have an optical option to fire as a backup.
