The AKG C414 XLII reference multipattern condenser microphone brings flexible studio capture to vocals, solo instruments, piano, strings, horns, and woodwinds. Its capsule is voiced with a slight presence boost and spacious reproduction inspired by the sonic character of the classic AKG C12 microphone from 1953. With nine selectable polar pattern settings, the C414 XLII adapts to changing recording techniques, room conditions, and source placement.
Flexible Polar Pattern Control
Nine selectable polar pattern settings give engineers more control over how the microphone captures the source and surrounding space. The available pattern range covers omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure of eight characteristics. This flexibility supports focused vocal recording, detailed instrument capture, and different studio recording approaches.
Control for Demanding Sources
Three attenuation settings of 6, 12, and 18 dB help accommodate close recording and high output sources up to 158 dB SPL. Three selectable bass cut filters at 40, 80, and 160 Hz help reduce wind noise, stage vibration, and proximity effect. A peak hold LED identifies even brief overload peaks, providing a clear visual reference while setting levels.
Built for Studio and Live Use
The C414 XLII covers a 20 to 20000 Hz audio frequency bandwidth with 23 mV/Pa sensitivity, a 6 dB A equivalent noise level, and an 88 dB A signal to noise ratio. Its balanced XLR output integrates with professional recording setups, while the controls can be disabled for live sound applications and permanent installations. The dark gray and gold finish completes its recognizable studio design.
