When EVH introduced the EVH Striped Series 5150 6-String Right-Handed Electric Guitar in Red, White, and Black stripes in 1984, he never would have fathomed the thousands of copies it would inspire. But then again, Eddie has made a career of being copied in every which way imaginable. EVH proudly introduces a new Striped Series 5150 model based on his original instrument, featuring his distinctively striped 5150 motif and single humbucker setup.
Fast Feel, Iconic Style
The Striped Series 5150 has a basswood body identical to the original, with a bolt-on quartersawn maple neck featuring a comfortable modified ‘C’ profile, a hand-rubbed satin urethane finish on the back, and a unique ‘hockey stick’ headstock. The fast-playing 12 to 16-inch compound radius maple fingerboard has 22 jumbo frets, black dot inlays, and a convenient heel-mount truss rod adjustment wheel.
Power Meets Control
The 5150 is also fitted with a custom-designed EVH Wolfgang alnico 2 humbucking bridge pickup, delivering the perfect amount of power and articulation with sweet sustain and thick, chunky rhythms in a perfectly balanced EQ curve. A custom-designed EVH-branded low-friction volume knob provides unmatched performance and even-volume tapering for the smoothest volume swells.
Drop-D On Demand
Decked out with a rock-solid ‘dive bomb’ certified EVH-branded Floyd Rose bridge, the locking tailpiece features fine tuners for each string and a patented EVH D-Tuna for switching back and forth from drop-D to standard tuning in an instant. With its quintessential red 5150 hologram numbers and star decals, the Striped Series 5150 is a high-powered, high-performance machine that's as kickass to look at as it is to play.
Bolt-On Quartersawn Maple Neck with EVH's Modified ‘C’ Backshape
Bolt-on is a type of neck construction that joins the maple neck to the body of the guitar with screws or bolts, resulting in a bright tone with more control. The quartersawn grain runs the length of the neck, and as well as being visually appealing, it is less susceptible to shrinking, warping, or splitting. Graphite-reinforcement rods flank the truss rod for even more increased neck stability, while your fretting hand will feel right at home on the modified ‘C’-shape neck, which has a .790-inch thickness at the 3rd fret and .825-inch at the 12th fret.
12 to 16-Inch Compound Radius Maple Fingerboard with 22 Jumbo Frets
The innovative 12 to 16-inch compound radius maple fingerboard design gradually flattens toward the heel from its smaller and more rounded profile at the nut for unparalleled comfortable chording and riffing near the nut and seamless bending near the heel. Maple is a dense wood that produces bright, snappy tones, articulate notes with bite, and a tight low end. Versus a 24-fret neck, a 22-fret layout shifts the neck pickup farther away from the bridge, centering it at the ‘sweet spot’ and resulting in an overall warmer tone. The jumbo fret wire slightly increases the distance between the string and the fingerboard for seamless and comfortable bends.
Direct Mount EVH Wolfgang Humbucking Pickup
Not all humbuckers are created equal. The direct-mount EVH Wolfgang humbucker with Alnico 2 magnets is hotter and harnesses Eddie’s scorching signature lead tone that captivated the world of rock ‘n’ roll in the ‘70s and ‘80s. These humbucking bridge pickups deliver rich harmonics, cutting highs, and snarling mids in spades.
EVH-Branded Floyd Rose Locking Trem, R3 Locking Nut, and EVH D-Tuna
EVH was the first player to popularize the innovative Floyd Rose locking tremolo, even advising Floyd Rose on his early designs to integrate round disc finger-type tuners that you would see on a cello or violin.
